About
New Engine in 2022 and new Teak Decks in 2007
We are very pleased to present a very unusual vessel that is rarely found on the Great Lakes. As well, it has been close to 20 years since she has seen saltwater which, along with her world-class construction and her owners love and unrestricted care for her, gives her an appearance of a freshwater yacht.
Sassafras is an S&S Nautor Swan 47 MK II Hull Number 31. This gives her a larger saloon and slightly smaller aft cabin compared to her earlier sisters with her mast just forward of the saloon table instead of in the middle of the table. She was built in December 1977 but the care that she has had makes her look like a much, much newer vessel.
The Sparkman & Stephens Swan 47 is a very powerful sailing yacht with impeccable sea manners and performance, especially upwind. In her current configuration she is easily handled by 2 or more crew. The current owners purchased the boat in 2004 and subsequently refitted the yacht. Under their watch, she boasts a new Yanmar 80 HP 2022 and gearbox, new teak decks in 2007, rewired, new electronics, great North Sails 2019, new chart plotter, new keel coolers for the fridge and freezer, new shaft seal, new batteries. In 2017, she was repainted with white Awlgrip on her topsides and coachroof. In 2022, she was given new bottom paint.
She has been continuously updated and either stored indoor or under cover in winters. She was very successfully raced in many Lake Ontario regattas under her current ownership.
