About

MetalCraft Marine is a renowned builder of patrol boats and fire boats for the government sector, but custom-built this vessel for use as a family recreational boat. The welded aluminum hull, deck and fittings will stand up to daily commercial use or adventure cruising, and the efficient Volvo Penta TMD-41B diesel (only 68 original hours) will be cost effective to operate. With a 10' 6" beam, this is a big boat for her length.

If you are looking for a rugged adventure cruiser or a small dive boat, crew transfer vessel or work boat, this terrific hull and engine may meet your needs. Some updates and commercial certification would be needed, but this is an exceptional opportunity to get a sturdy, durable boat at a great value point. Sellers are open to offers.

From Designer Tom Wroe

“She was based on a tug style cruiser that we had built in1985; slightly larger and has more of a trawler look. We cut away the aft part of the keel to let her maneuver faster while still providing protection for the prop and rudder.”

“The hull would be all 5083-H32;
sides and decks -3/16″
bottom below the chine is likely 1/4″; maybe only 3/16″
superstructure – likely 5052-H32 1/8″; perhaps 3/16″
hull framing – we used to go with 3/16″ 5083 flange transverse frames. 1/4″ engine girders and long’l T-bars stiffeners.”

Deck and Cockpit

At the bow, we have a good flat working surface, welded aluminum railing and anchor roller with hawse pipe to the chain locker below.

A good size, quality hatch provides light, ventilation and access to the cabin interior.

The side decks provide a secure walkway aft, with the helm access by a sliding door on starboard. Welded aluminum handrails on the cabin top provide a good grip, or double as tie-downs for gear stored on top.

The cockpit is deep and secure. The transom has fold-out steps down to and below the waterline for easy access to/from the water.

A vented propane locker on the port side is made from welded aluminum, and another welded locker on starboard provides gear stowage.

Another sliding door provides access from the cockpit into the main salon.

Mooring cleats are welded in, forward, mid-ships and aft. Removable floor panels in the cockpit provide access to the steering gear.

Propulsion

The single Volvo Penta TMD41B is a turbo-charged 6-cylinder marine diesel that develops approximately 150hp. It is fitted with a standard Volvo Penta control and instrument panel at the helm, and is equipped with a keel cooler.

The hour meter shows 68 original hours, and has been verified as working by the seller. Yes, the boat really has been very lightly used.

The engine starts remarkably quickly on turning over and runs smoothly.

The Volvo Penta transmission drives a solid stainless shaft through a dripless shaft seal to the big four bladed bronze prop, located just forward of the rudder for good handling.

The prop and rudder are protected by the keel forward and steel beams running aft below the prop to the rudder.

Accommodations

Entering the cabin from the aft cockpit, we have a generous open space. A settee on port could be used as a bunk, and a fold-out chart table is built in to the wall on starboard.

Large windows provide plenty of light, ventilation and visibility throughout.

One step up to the wheelhouse level, and we have the helm station on starboard, with a sliding door to the side deck. Opposite on port we have a galley area with sink, stowage and a two-burner propane cooktop.

Access to the engine mechanical systems is easy, below the floor boards.

Stepping down to the forward cabin, we have the private head on port, with sink, marine toilet and stowage lockers.

The forward berth area provides a bunk space, stowage and access to the chain locker. An overhead hatch leads out on to the foredeck.

Electrical and Mechanical Systems

Electrical

A 12 Volt DC electrical system is driven by two batteries (replacement suggested), one each for engine starting and house systems. Charging is through the engine alternator.

At the helm station, we have switches/fuses for nine circuits covering lighting and accessories.

Some minor work is required to bring the system up to contemporary ABYC standards with respect to battery fusing and disconnect switches.

There is no shore power equipment installed at present.

Electronics

The boat has a Humminbird 899 Ci HD sonar/GPS chart plotter, with side imaging. New about 2-3 years ago. It uses a transom mounted transducer.

A VHF radio is fitted with a rooftop whip antenna.

There is a vintage AM/FM/Cassette stereo deck.

Mechanical

Potable water pressure pump

Fuel filter

Propane piping from the propane locker to the range. ( Shut-off solenoid must be added for contemporary standards compliance)

Safety Equipment

  • Automatic Bilge Pump
  • Anchor with chain/rope rode
  • Spotlight
  • Boat hook
  • Re-boarding via transom steps
  • 1x Fire extinguisher
  • VHF Radio

Testimonials

George Ayers was terrific to work with over the past few months as I evaluated, negotiated and purchased a CS 30 that Harris & Ellis Yachts had listed in Sarnia. He was patient, thorough and totally professional. I have owned nine sailboats in my 50+ years as a sailor. My experience with George and Harris & Ellis Yachts has been my best boat buying experience to date.

George did an amazing job of selling our CS 30 sailboat. A caring and compassionate person, he went above and beyond our expectations and never stopped working on our behalf to get the job done. We are forever grateful for his dedication to his work. Please let him know how much we think of him!

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the outstanding service provided by Greg. Last October, my husband suddenly passed away due to a heart attack, leaving behind two boats. Greg was instrumental in helping me sell the first boat quickly and at a very good price. As for the second boat, due to my husband's declining health in his final year, the boat had been sitting idle at the dock near our home for over a year. Greg demonstrated the utmost professionalism in cleaning, maintaining, and preparing the boat for sale. He put in a tremendous amount of work, understanding the niche market for this boat, and always kept me informed of his progress without burdening me with the stress of the process. Last week, Greg successfully sold the second boat, and I am very satisfied with the price achieved. His professionalism and confidence in his work gave me a much-needed sense of security during such a difficult time.

Thank you for all your work in facilitating the sale of our dad's boat. Jake and I really appreciate all the hard work you put into it with the many visits, paperwork, etc. A special mention has to go out to Grant for teaching me how to fold the sails!

As first-time boat buyers and as foreigners wanting to buy a cruising catamaran in the US, we knew we needed a reliable broker that had our best interests in mind. John Heintzman was just that, and more! He was extremely committed to understanding what we were looking for, gave great advice, and guided us through the purchase process with great patience and knowledge. All in all, we felt very well taken care of.

I feel compelled to reach out about the absolutely wonderful experience that I have had with Grant and Patricia Bowlby. I completed the purchase of a boat yesterday and I couldn’t be happier. They were so helpful, kind, and patient. This was my first experience with a broker, and I think I’ve found the best.

I can’t thank Ewan Campbell enough for the super job he did in selling G, making up for my lack of experience in this realm and patiently searching for just the right buyer and a win-win for seller and buyer alike.

It was a wonderful experience selling A with Jeff Cole’s expert assistance. Thank you for simplifying a complicated process. Your patience and kindness are especially appreciated.

I just wanted to thank Jeff Cole for all his hard work. He was very professional and effective.
