The Union 36 Cutter is a yacht designed for the bluewater sailor. Based on the Hans Christian 34 and designed by Naval architect Robert Perry, this boat was built in 1984 by the Union Yacht Co. in Taipei, Taiwan. With her long keel, canoe stern and cutter rig this boat provides a timeless salty design and a balanced helm for ocean sailing. She offers comfortable sailing with a very reassuring and practical interior for voyaging worldwide. One major bonus with MARIPOSA II is that she has primarily been a freshwater boat for the vast majority of her life.

Her interior is finished in rich Teak with plenty of headroom and ventilation. She has a large double berth forward. Just aft on the port side is a head compartment with a separate stall shower, and across from the head is a large hanging locker. The main saloon features a large U-shaped dinette to port with plenty of storage behind and beneath the seats and a long settee to starboard. The settee pulls out to form a sea berth or additional seating for the dinette. The U-shaped galley is located to port and contains a deep double sink, a two-burner propane stove with oven and a 12-cubic-foot icebox with refrigeration. The galley is very functional and contains numerous drawers, lockers, and other storage spaces. Light and ventilation are provided by eight oval-shaped opening bronze ports with a large butterfly hatch in the main cabin and a smaller hatch located in the V-berth. Both hatches are wood reinforced with nickel-plated bronze rods. Across from the galley is another sizable locker and a generously sized navigation station. A large quarter berth occupies the starboard quarter.

It is extremely apparent that MARIPOSA II has been the subject of above-average and on-going love and care and has enjoyed significant upgrading since 2002. Please refer to her specifications in order to see the extensive amount of improvements that her current owners have made.

If your destination is just an afternoon on the water or a long reach to the Islands or beyond, she is ready to take you where your dreams rest. She is a unique design which combines all of the most desirable characteristics of an ocean going yacht from bow to stern with the design, construction, accommodation and finish you would expect. You will find MARIPOSA II a worthy choice for your Bluewater sailing dreams.
